Despite Qwest Communications being the lone hold out of the big telecommunications companies who are willing to assist the Bush administration's wiretapping program, the Denver based company was named as the official communications provider for the 2008 RNC convention in the twin cities.

The release from the RNC states:

"As the Official Communications Provider, Qwest will be the exclusive provider of high-speed Internet as well as voice and data lines for the COA. Qwest also will provide hosting services and 24/7 network management and technical support."

Joe Naccio, former CEO of Qwest who was convicted of 19 counts of insider trading in 2007, has said that Qwest failed to get government contracts because the company would not play ball with the Bush Administration's wiretapping program, which focused on terrorist communications coming into the United States from overseas.

While the claims of Naccio, a convicted felon, are dubious at best, it does seem that Qwest is in the good graces of the RNC if not the federal government.
