If you've been wondering what Democrats are thinking about our tricky little situation which entails, oh, just a political speech and a football game simultaneously vying for spectators, wonder no more.

From 2008 Democratic Convention Watch:

So here's the situation. You're a long-time Washington DC GOP partisan, and no matter where you came from, you've become a diehard Redskins fan. It's been a long off-season, and you've been looking forward to the start of the season all spring, especially now that you've resolved that minor problem of picking a presidential nominee. And your opening game is against your hated rival, and defending Super Bowl champion, the New York Giants. The game is close, Redskins down by 7, but Eli throws a late interception, and the Redskins tie it up. Overtime. The game started at 7:00 PM EST, but the clock's now ticking past 10:15. Uh oh. What to do? John McCain is about to give the most important speech of his life, accepting the nomination of the Republican Party for President of the United States.

And trust me, the GOP is not concerned about their own GOP partisans, and it's a problem even if the game ends by 10:00. It's all those independent voters and football fans in Connecticut, New Jersey and Virgina that are just not going to pay any attention to John McCain that evening. Teams from the two biggest political media markets will be opening their season on the night of McCain's speech. How lucky can the Democrats get?
