A lot of Minnesotans travel back and forth between here and Canada regularly. Recently though, one Minnesota-based group wasn't even allowed in on political grounds. My favorite protesters, the "RNC Welcoming Committee" were invited by a similar Canadian group to give their talk about protesting the 2008 Republican National Convention in Canada. According to this site,

Apparently the border police, FBI, and ATF barred the American RNC "Welcoming Committee" activists from entering Canada... The activists were held at the border for 5 hours while they were investigated, only to find out that they were not allowed into the country.

I find it amazing, that most of these groups are protesting the political practices or ideals of both Republican and Democratic parties, something that they are allowed to do because they live in such a free country. Yet they want to distibute their anti-political and even anti-American message to a country that won't even let them in because they don't have the kind of free-speech laws we embrace in America.
