Martin Frost, a former Democratic Congressman from Texas and former Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus has an interesting piece on FoxNews.com about a possible delegate floor fight at the Democratic National Convention.

In recent weeks there has been a great furor in the Democratic Party over the question of whether or not to seat convention delegations from Florida and Michigan elected in violation of party rules and how to choose replacement delegates if the rules are enforced.

If this issue cannot be resolved by the candidates and the Democratic National Committee, we may see a credentials floor fight at the national convention late this summer.

We've blogged about this before, but I figured the DNC meant what they said about Florida and Michigan and the party would go on wtihout them.

Frost continues:

So, how does the Democratic Party resolve these credentials fights prior to the convening of the National Convention in Denver? Clearly, there must be a resolution because refusing to seat any delegates from two large, competitive states like Michigan and Florida is not acceptable.

My personal choice remains for Michigan and Florida to have re-votes. If that is not possible, then party leaders must help resolve this matter prior to the convention.

Frost thinks a few elected officials who each favor Obama and Clinton in equal numbers, should hammer out the fight, and that it shouldn't be left up to the convention committees.

My question is, Michigan and Florida broke the DNC's clearly-stated rules (set forth by past delegates), why shouldn't they receive punishment? I realize the DNC never thought they'd stick to their plan, and probably Michigan and Florida never thought they'd actually get stripped of their delegates, but they did, on both counts.

It does seem strange to have a convention without two large states, but really, the issue is the close race between Obama and Clinton. If one were ahead, this wouldn't matter. But now, the votes actually count, so concerned Democrats like Congressman Frost are trying to propose a helpful solution.
